The Arboricultural Association, Association of British Insurers and Council of Mortgage Lenders have all collaborated to establish a method of informed assessment of the risk of trees causing damage to buildings. The assessment includes distance of tree from building, height and species of tree, soil plasticity index, foundation depth, climatic conditions of the locality and other special features.
