Keywords Database, Property

A new £11 million computer system, the "Mining Reports and Surface Damage Services", has recently been launched by Cap Gemini in conjunction with the Coal Authority. The database covers an estimated 10 million properties in those parts of England, Scotland and Wales, where coal mining has taken place. The new system contains the largest geographical database in the UK, with over 50 gigabytes of Ordnance Survey data online. It is the only database which holds the OS Landline data online for the whole of Great Britain and it includes urban mapping on a 1:1250 scale, allowing easy identification of individual properties. The system was developed under a Private Finance Initiative project sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry. For more information see www.capgemini.co.uk
