BMI report that private sector maintenance costs are continuing to rise more rapidly than those in the public sector. The BMI Private Sector Index rose 5.2 per cent over the 12 months to the third quarter of 2001, while Health Service costs rose 3.7 per cent and Local Authority costs rose only 2.7 per cent over the same period. This differential looks set to continue, as wage inflation in the private sector outstrips that in the public sector.
