Commonhold Bill receives Royal Assent

Keywords: Land tenure, Residential property

The Commonhold Bill received Royal Assent on 1 May 2002. The new legislation will enable flats to be owned on a virtual freehold basis. Although mainly designed for residential property, the Act also has implications for commercial property sub-divided into interdependent units. Similar tenure systems operate in America and Australia.
