Low stock levels and increased buyer interest provides boost to the market

Article Type: Newsbriefs From: Structural Survey, Volume 27, Issue 5

Keywords: Homes, Market, Trends

A further increase in both new buyer enquiries and sales, and a reduction in the level of stocks on surveyors’ books, have begun to provide some support for property prices, as reported in RICS’ latest housing market survey. The new instructions net balance remained marginally in negative territory in June; this has been reflected in a further fall in the stock of property on surveyors’ books. Buyer enquiries increased again leading to another jump in the number of newly agreed sales. Price expectations turned positive in June for the first time since May 2007. The June survey provides more evidence that activity in the housing market is recovering, albeit from historic lows.
