Multicore and Concoat announce a global partnership

Keywords Concoat, Multicore

Global solder giant Multicore has reached an agreement with European electronic process specialist Concoat Ltd, to promote and exclusively distribute Concoat's Auto-SIR™ surface insulation resistance test system world wide (Plate 1).

The British developed Auto-SIR is a unique instrument used to define the reliability of electronic circuit assemblies, for which Concoat has received the Millennium Award. The acronym "SIR" stands for surface insulation resistance. The Auto-SIR precisely measures the electrical resistance of the electronic assembly surface from each stage in the manufacturing process and provides an authoritative reading that equates to the electronic circuit's reliability.

Using frequent monitoring/trend analysis (FMTA) techniques, the user is able to obtain sample rates at ten minute intervals and more accurate sample data to measure the true effects of both ionic and non-ionic contamination.

Multicore assumes global distribution of the Auto-SIR from 1 October 1998, supporting the product from its international applications centres in Europe, the USA and Asia-Pacific. In the UK, Multicore will operate in close liaison with Surrey-based Concoat, providing broader local market opportunities and an extended Auto-SIR support network.

Concoat will concentrate on the continuing technical development and evolution of the Auto-SIR, which will now carry both Concoat and Multicore identification.

Multicore will initially focus its extensive resources on the existing portable benchtop instrument while Concoat completes an entirely new rack-mounted system. This is aimed at customers with intensive test demands such as six-sigma quality control operations and laboratory applications.
