New BCS Women's Forum to address employment concerns

New BCS Women's Forum to address employment concerns

A new British Computer Society (BCS) forum aims to address the serious issues of women's negative view of working in IT. Women represent less than 20 percent of the IT workforce in the UK with a perceived lack of support, networking opportunities and career development cited as reasons for selecting alternative careers.

Wendy Hall, chair of the new Women's Forum explains:

By working with employers and connecting with other women in IT groups, the Forum aims to achieve an inclusive working environment and to offer support for women in maintaining and developing their IT careers. Other key issues for the group include promoting part-time, flexible working arrangements in the IT sector and developing products and servicesto help women returners retrain and reskill.

The forum successfully hosted their first workshop with Equalitec recently and have many more events planned for the future.
