The virtual classroom (referred to here) is a trademarked, innovative programme originated at New Jersey Institute of Technology which brings the University into the homes and workplaces of students through the use of networked computers. Specially designed software links the student of the virtual classroom to his/her professors and to classmates. The student from home or work can "attend" lectures, take tests, receive feedback, participate in discussions and undertake team-based projects with fellow students. This book discusses all aspects of the virtual classroom, including its goals, its methods, the software tools, the theoretical underpinnings, the teaching strategies and student reactions.
