Compaq has unveiled an advanced 18-inch flat panel TFT monitor, the TFT8000. This new thin and light monitor delivers high performance within a tiny footprint and is designed for users in space constrained environments who want to save desk space without sacrificing the quality of large viewing displays. The Compaq TFT8000 takes up less than half the space and is 70 per cent lighter than a 21-inch CRT monitor. It is likely to appeal to financial institutions where the ability to squeeze more monitors onto the desktop and provide a wider array of breaking market data at a glance is essential. Using In-Plane Switching technology, its wide-viewing angle of 160 degrees allows screen images to be seen from the side without loss of colour density or contrast 16.7 million colours generate a "true colour" photo-realistic image adding to the exceptional image quality. Capable of high resolutions up to 1,280 × 1,024, the TFT8000 supports the most commonly used resolution for 21-inch CRT monitors and lower resolutions as well as font stretching.
