These are part of a 30 Minutes series from Kogan Page. Nor surprisingly, given the title of the series, the aim is to give focused, practical advice in just half an hour. This is not rocket science. The guidance is straightforward, bordering on the obvious. However, it never does any harm to remind oneself of key principles -- and, as we all know, there is merit in simplicity.
The first of these books takes the reader through the steps of holding a successful meeting. This includes preparing the agenda, choosing the time and place, co-ordinating attendance and following up on decisions made. Preparing properly by rehearsing and addressing these issues gives confidence -- and assures better meetings.
The second takes a simple, systematic approach to problem solving with advice on how to:
- •
recognise and overcome common hindrances to problem solving;
- •
use specific techniques to help with different types of problem;
- •
generate a wider range of possible solutions;
- •
evaluate different solutions to identify the most appropriate.
