Harder and harder

It seems to be getting more difficult to get large-scale computer systems to work. Whether these are large, mainframe-based, client-server, or large-scale PC-desktop rollouts, there seems to be more and more "disasters". This is probably a function of interoperability - the number of hardware and software components in even the humblest "system" is now large. So, while we have software which claims to be ever-more-user-friendly, we keep screwing up the work that these users do because we cannot link together their various tasks and application packages into a coherent whole. Now, who do we blame for all this? Answers on a postcard, please, to Seattle.
