Free enterprise

Free enterprise

Do you remember the term "free enterprise"? It used to refer to the spirit of entrepreneurship. The term "free" could be said to refer to freedom of thought (the creativity and imagination required by entrepreneurs) or to freedom from bureaucratic control. This last freedom seems to be increasingly eroded. For what are usually very good reasons in individual cases, regulation and guidance from government and industry bodies proliferates until the cumulative effect is constraining and constricting. The same can happen within organisations – if not careful. Take the time to look at the climate for "freedom" and see how it can be improved. Letting your people free can give the biggest productivity boost you will ever see.
