Geac Ireland, a unit of Geac Computer Corporation Limited, has just completed a contract worth 237,000 with Kennys Bookshop, Art Galleries and Export Centre. The integrated solution combines Geac's StreamLine enterprise resource planning system and Vubis Smart, the most recent release of Geac's library information management system. Based in Galway, Kennys Bookshop was one of the first companies in Ireland to set up its own online presence to promote its range over the Web and is one of Ireland's premier bookstores, supplying their books via a global distribution network. The contract includes software user licences, annual maintenance, professional services and hardware and was implemented between March and June 2003. Through this investment Kennys hopes to grow its business dramatically in 2004, and to extend its level of business on the Web significantly, making the Web site the most significant global source of Irish related books and art on the Internet. Kennys currently exports to 35 countries worldwide, specialising in the provision of new and second-hand books, antiquarian and rare books, maps and manuscripts. Its 5,000 clients include major research libraries in the USA such as Stanford, Harvard, Yale and the Library of Congress. This project provides Kennys with powerful search capabilities and full stock visibility in real time to enable customers to search and purchase items directly from its Web site. Kennys will now be able to catalogue in excess of 1 million books to full library standards making it the only bookseller in Europe to have this many books available on the Web. As books are catalogued they will become available on Kennys' Web site (www.kennys.ie), in addition to being uploaded to major portal sites such as amazon.com, abebooks.com and alibris.com
