Money, no object

When Halifax and the Bank of Scotland merged in September 2001 to form one of the UK's largest banking and financial organisations, HBOS, one of the obvious goals was to make back-office savings. One of the areas identified for cost savings was procurement: part of the approach was to build a data warehouse and business intelligence solution spanning both formerly disparate companies, and accessible by all parties engaged in procurement activity. Halifax already had a client/server procurement system, with Business Objects used as the analysis tool. However, soon after merger a new supplier relationship management system was the first project undertaken. The organisation selected Acuma's extract, transform and load offering and the Kalido Dynamic Information Warehouse. Business Objects is still used as the front end for reporting and analysis, while one full-time member of staff manipulates the Kalido platform. The system is now used by 74 staff.
